Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to provide free healthcare to at least 10,000 people in Lagos suburbs as part of his 89th birthday celebrations.
The Lagos Medical Mission, organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), will run from February 27 to March 4, 2026, in Ikorodu and Alimosho local government areas, a statement yesterday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said.
It said the outreach will begin at Ijede LCDA Council Hall on February 27 and Imota Mini Stadium on February 28, before moving to Alade Stadium, Agbado/Oke-Odo, from March 2 to 4.
Services, it said, would include free ear and eye care, hearing aids, prescription glasses, referrals for surgeries, cardiovascular screening, blood pressure checks, general medical consultations, and distribution of essential medications for elderly citizens, children, low-income residents, and those with untreated hearing, vision, or cardiovascular issues.
The services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, said the Chief Executive Officer of OOF, Dr. Olalekan Makinde.

According to him, the mission reflected Obasanjo’s lifelong commitment to public service and accessible healthcare. The Foundation, dedicated to health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and community development, has helped thousands through its hearing programme.
Meanwhile, the former President has called for reforms at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Obasanjo made the call in Abeokuta, Ogun, when he received the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Uduma Uduma, and members of his management team.
He advocated the restoration of its law programme, increased student enrolment, and integration of artificial intelligence into academic systems, encouraging the university to prioritise modernisation and expand access to quality education.
Uduma pledged to revive the law programme and consolidate ongoing reforms, while the university’s immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, highlighted NOUN’s integration of AI and its international recognition.
NOUN currently has around 300,000 registered students, with approximately 190,000 actively participating.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the vice-chancellor later toured the Abeokuta Study Centre, guided by Centre Director Mr. Oyekunle Adegboyega, to assess facilities and ongoing programmes.
