The Nigerian chapter of the International Communication Association (ICA) has elected Desmond Okocha, a Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media as its chairperson.

Prof Okocha's emergence was confirmed at the maiden national conference of the body held at Nile University, Abuja.

Okocha succeeded the pioneer chair, Dr. Ekaete George, marking a transition widely seen as a move toward continuity and consolidation for the association, which has recorded significant growth since its establishment in 2023.

Prior to his emergence, Okocha served as Vice-Chair of the chapter.

The two-day conference brought together scholars and industry practitioners under the theme, “Global Communication Shifts and Implications for Africa.”

Discussions at the event focused on key issues including artificial intelligence, climate change, and crisis communication.

The conference was attended by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, who was represented by the Director-General of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Muhammed Ali.
