Galatasaray received a huge boost leading up Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League rematch at Liverpool when Victor Osimhen scored for them to beat city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 in the Super Lig.

The home win has taken Galatasaray seven points clear of nearest rivals Fenerbache.

Osimhen grabbed his 12th Super Lig goal this season in the 67th minute.

It was an audacious effort as he controlled a long ball inside the box before he fired past the goalkeeper.

This was just moments after a spectacular overhead kick by the Super Eagles striker crashed against the crossbar.

Wednesday night, Galatasaray will take a 1-0 lead to Anfield from the UEFA Champions Round of 16 first leg in Istanbul.

The overall winners of this tie will advance to the quarterfinal of the competition.
