Afrobeats superstar Davido has formally entered the political arena in Osun, throwing his weight behind his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the August 15, 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
On Tuesday, the singer inaugurated the Imole Youth Mobilisation campaign council and collected his membership card of the Accord Party in the state.
Davido was named Chairman of the youth wing of the campaign, signalling a strategic push to harness young voters’ support for the governor’s second-term ambition.
In a statement released after the event on Wednesday, Davido expressed strong confidence in the current administration’s popularity.
“Yesterday I officially inaugurated the Imole youth mobilization campaign council and also collected my membership card for the Accord Party in Osun State for the forthcoming Gubernatorial election coming up in August.
“We look forward to a successful re-election for Mr Governor… This current administration is one that the people of Osun love so much. As it stands now, all things being fair, it will be a walk over In Jesus name”, he added.
Governor Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, is seeking re-election under the “Imole” banner, the same slogan that defined his 2022 campaign.
The Adeleke family has deep political roots in Osun, with the governor’s brother, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, having served as the state’s first civilian governor in 1992.
