Osun State Government has debunked the rumour of the purported sack of a traditional ruler in the state, the Olokeolooru Obalufon of Okeolooru Obalufon in the Boluwaduro Local Government area of the state, Oba Mukaila Michael Adebisi.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, in a statement in Osogbo, faulted a rumour on social media that the state government sacked the traditional ruler.

He described the rumour as unfounded, baseless, reckless and deliberate propagation and advised the people of the state to disregard it.

He said: "We received a request for elevation from one Chief Adebisi Mukaila, who claimed to be the Baale of Oke Olooru Obalufon, as well as one Chief Ogundele Olasunkanmi Matthew, who claimed to be the Baale of Irante in Boluwaduro Local Government.

"Both elevation requests were recommended by the Akifin of Ikinfin, who claimed to be their Prescribed Authority. It is worthy of note that the condition precedent for a minor Chief to be promoted to Part II status is and remains that his application has to be endorsed, among other requirements, by the Prescribed Authority to whom such authority had been delegated under the Chiefs Law of Osun State."

"Thereafter, the applications were processed and approved by the State Executive Council. Consequent upon the approval of the applications, they made payment of the official prescribed fees to the coffers of the Osun State Government, and the same were duly receipted."

"Therefore, they were presented with their respective staff of Office at a ceremony conducted at the Conference room of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and witnessed by principal state actors, including the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Femi Ogundun, in his capacity as the Administrative Head of the Ministry.

"After the ceremony, the Ministry received both oral and written protests against the elevation of the duo from the Owa of Otan Ayegbaju and the Oluresi of Iresi, claiming that the request did not pass through the Traditional Council and Chieftaincy Committee as required and that the Akifin himself was wrongfully elevated to a recognised Oba."

"To douse and to enable the Ministry to carry out a proper investigation into the matter, both elevations were immediately suspended."

Babatunde said the decisions made by the two monarchs to file two separate suits, both at the Federal High Court, Osogbo and at the State High Court, Ikirun and which cases are currently pending in the two courts, were welcomed by the government and regarded as a good step in the right direction.
