The Alayemore of Ido-Osun, in Osun state, Oba Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola, has bagged  an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts (Culture and Tradition) at Bradley University, Illinois, United States of America.

The American varsity hinged its decisions to confer the monarch the title on Oba Jokotola’s exceptional contributions to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of African culture and traditional heritage.

A statement by Director of Media and Communication at the Palace of Olojudo, Prince Okunoye Adesoji, revealed that the conferrment was done at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and attracted traditional rulers, scholars, and well-wishers from across Nigeria to celebrate the monarch’s enduring dedication to cultural preservation and community development.

According to him, “the award acknowledges the Alayemore’s unwavering commitment to promoting Yoruba culture, strengthening traditional institutions, and fostering unity and development within Ido-Osun and beyond. Since ascending the throne, Oba Jokotola II has championed initiatives that preserve indigenous values while encouraging education, peace, and socio-economic progress among his people.”

He noted that Oba Jokotola accepting the honour, he dedicated the title to his late father, his forebears and sons and daughters of Ido-Osun, who he described as pillars of support and unity.

“The monarch expressed profound appreciation to Bradley University for the recognition, stating that it will compel him to re-dedicate, recommit and immerse himself deeper into the service of his people and promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition.

"The recognition further underscores the growing international appreciation for the role of traditional rulers in safeguarding cultural identity, strengthening social cohesion, and promoting grassroots development.”
