As part of activities marking the 84th birthday of General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),  members on Saturday carried out a humanitarian outreach at Olusosun landfill community in Lagos.

They provided free medical care, educational support, and relief materials to residents.

The Valentine’s Day visit, organised under Reach4Christ Initiative, featured medical screening and treatment, distribution of pharmaceuticals, clothing, food items, and school bags to children living in and around the dumpsite.

The outreach also saw launch of a structured education intervention: “Taking Education to Olusosun,” to address educational deprivation among children growing up in the environment. Organisers said the campaign aligns with global child-rights principles affirming every child’s right to education and dignity.

Located in Olusosun–Ikosi axis of Lagos, the landfill spans 100 acres and receives thousands of tonnes of waste daily. Informal settlements around the site host thousands of families, who depend on waste picking for survival, exposing residents, especially children,  to toxic smoke, contaminated water, and poor sanitation, with limited access to schooling.

Chair of the initiative, Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, said the outreach was expression of Christian love and social responsibility.

“This is not our first time here,” he said. “We have come again to proclaim the love of God and to show it in action. We have added education by creating a learning space for your children, with healthcare, food, and clothing.”
