Newly sworn-in Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, has said his main focus in office will be to strengthen government revenue, promote fiscal discipline, and ensure that public funds translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
Oyedele made this known on his Facebook page after he was sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Minister of State for Finance. He said his new role comes with a responsibility to help address the country’s fiscal challenges while working to unlock opportunities that can support economic growth and national development.
According to him, the decisions taken in managing Nigeria’s public finances today will shape the country’s prosperity and stability for many years to come.
“In my new role, I will focus on supporting efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation, promote fiscal discipline, and ensure that public resources translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
Oyedele expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence placed in him and also thanked the Nigerian Senate for confirming his nomination.
He described the appointment not just as a personal achievement but as an opportunity to contribute to national development.
“This appointment is not merely a personal milestone; it is a call to greater service. Nigeria faces important fiscal challenges, but also immense opportunities,” he said.
The minister explained that effective management of public finance is critical for building a strong and stable economy, adding that government policies must focus on ensuring that available resources are used efficiently to improve the well-being of citizens.
He also said he would work closely with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as well as other stakeholders in government to advance the country’s development agenda.

According to him, collaboration across institutions will be necessary to strengthen the country’s fiscal framework and mobilise resources required for national development.
“I look forward to working more closely with the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, colleagues across government, the National Assembly, private sector, and development partners to advance the mission of financing Nigeria for sustainable development,” he said.
Oyedele added that public service requires strong values such as integrity, humility, and dedication, noting that he is assuming office with a deep sense of responsibility to serve the country and its people.
“Public service demands integrity, humility, and dedication. I step into this responsibility with a deep sense of duty and commitment to Nigeria and the Nigerian people,” he said.
He also appreciated those who have supported him throughout his professional journey and called for continued cooperation as he begins work in his new position. “The work begins. God bless Nigeria,” he added.
