The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has received State Directors of the City Boy Movement (CBM) from the Southwest at his office in Abuja, highlighting the role of youth engagement in governance and national development.

The delegation, led by the Oyo State Director of the movement, Lamiju Alao-Akala, outlined the objectives and activities of the group and its expanding reach across the region.

The City Boy Movement is a youth-driven sociopolitical platform established to promote civic participation, policy awareness and support for the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It comprises young professionals, students, entrepreneurs and community organisers who engage youths through advocacy, public enlightenment campaigns, town-hall meetings and empowerment initiatives.

Speaking during the visit, Alao-Akala said the movement was founded on the belief that Nigeria’s youth population must be informed and involved in governance. He noted that the CBM works across Southwest states to bridge the gap between government policies and young citizens by simplifying and communicating key reforms and programmes of the current administration.

He added that the visit formed part of the group’s engagement with senior government officials whose portfolios impact economic growth and job creation. Alao-Akala highlighted the ministry’s role in unlocking opportunities in maritime trade, logistics, fisheries and port services, and sought the Minister’s support in promoting awareness of blue economy opportunities among young Nigerians.
