No fewer than 100 youths in Osun State have been trained in fishery and supported with a total of N7.5 million in business grants by Femi Oyetola, son of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The beneficiaries, drawn from all 30 local government areas and the Modakeke Area Office, participated in a three-day training programme held in Iragbiji, aimed at boosting agricultural practices and promoting self-reliance.

Speaking on the initiative, Oyetola said the programme represents the fifth edition of his youth empowerment effort across the state.

He noted that while previous interventions focused on distributing gifts and relief materials, the current approach is designed to enable beneficiaries to become wealth creators and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.

Represented by former Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Students’ Affairs and Social Mobilisation, Kehinde Ayantunji, he added that the initiative is intended to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Also, I observed that the current government in Osun State is not paying attention to youth empowerment, hence, we must rally the youths for the future. Once the youths are empowered future is guaranteed. More of this gesture are coming. 100 youths benefited and N7.5million business grant are distributed as startup.”

The Olororuwo of Ororuwo, Oba Kamorudeen Adeyanju lamented over spate of social vices propagated by youths, nothing that the initiative by Femi Oyetola will tackle restiveness.

He urged the youths to bear their burden while they are young and underscore the importance of hardwork and diligence to fight poverty in the society.

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi who was represented by his Olupona, Chief Saheed Adeleke, said “I will urge the beneficiaries to utilise the training to also be employer of labour and make best use of the fund.”
