Oyo Assembly member dumps PDP for ADC

‎The ‎member representing Ibadan NorthWest State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Dawood Akanni Olalere, popularly known as D-Al-Ameen, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He announced his resignation in a letter dated February 13, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 7, PDP, Ibadan North West Local Government, Ibadan.

‎In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision to leave the party takes immediate effect, attributing his resignation to what he described as "long lingering and unresolvable division bedeviling the party".

‎Olalere further noted that the move was in his best interest, aligned with his personal values, and in consideration of the interests of his supporters.

Shortly after the resignation was announxed on Monday, The Nation gathered that the lawmaker has immediately switched his political allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

In a video sighted by The Nation on Monday, the lawmaker was received in his constituency amid singing, dancing, drumming and jubilations with the supporters declaring their new port as the ADC.

When contacted, the Publicity Secretary, Oyo ADC, Bimbo Adelowo confirmed the development.

He said the defected lawmaker has already been received into the ADC fold by the state Chairman, Yinka Olona at an event which held at St Patrick Primary School, Abebi, Ibadan along sides thousands of his supporters.

He said the implication of the defection for the party is that it would not only boost the membership strength of the party but would show the seriousness of the party in the coming general election.

Adelowo said, "The Oyo state Chairman of ADC Alhaji Yinka Olona recieved Hon. Dawood Akanni Olalere the current member of Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North West State Constituency into ADC today 16th February 2026.

"He was recieved at St. Patrick Primary school Abebi, Ibadan. He led thousands of his supporters to join the ADC.

"With the defection, the party membership strength has received a boost as well as a seat at the State House of Assembly.

"Present at the declaration are: the State Chairman of ADC, State Publicity Secretary- Barr. Bimpe Adelowo, Ibadan North West LGA Chairman, Ibadan South West LGA, Ibadan North LGA other party leaders Hon. Wale Afọlábi among others.
