Police arrest seven, recover firearms, suspected cult items in Abia

The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested seven persons for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The command also announced the recovery of five locally made pistols, a toy gun, seven unexpended cartridges, two yellow berets suspected to be insignia of the Black Axe Confraternity, and a furniture screw machine.

The suspects were apprehended by the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command.

In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the police identified those arrested as Chima George, 22; Chukwu Emeka Goodluck, 27; Julius Emenike, 23; Chika James, 23; Richard Wisdom, 22; Stephen Chinonso, 33; and Chinoso Tom, 33.

The command said investigations are ongoing.

The statement read, "Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit apprehended the above-mentioned suspects between 31/01/2026 and 11/02/2026 and recovered from them five (5) locally made pistols, seven (7) cartridges, one (1) toy pistol, two (2) yellow berets of the Black Axe Confraternity and a Maxmech furniture screw machine. Investigation is ongoing as suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of investigation

"The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirms the Command’s commitment to its constitutional duties and encourages members of the public to partner with the Police by volunteering useful information, reporting any suspicious activity of security concerns to the nearest police station."
