...recover firearms

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have foiled a planned cult attack and dismantled armed robbery networks in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele, arresting suspects and recovering three firearms and 27 live cartridges.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, assured residents that the safety of law-abiding citizens remained a top priority.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that on February 27, at about 11:35 p.m., operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli and arrested Oghenemaro Festus of Upper Agbarho.

A pump-action gun loaded with two live cartridges was recovered from him.

Police said the suspect is linked to a series of house-to-house robberies in the area, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

In Sapele, following complaints about serial robberies by a motorcycle-riding syndicate, the same team carried out a targeted operation in the early hours of March 1, 2026.

At about 3:35 a.m., Prince Omanure, 21, also known as “Anini,” was arrested in the Ghana Area of the town, the statement said.

During interrogation, he led operatives to a bush along the Warri–Sapele Road near the Trailer Park, where a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition was recovered. Police said the suspect has provided useful information as investigations continue.

In a separate operation on February 27 at about 9:14 a.m., operatives of the Quick Response Squad led by SP Achem Collins raided a building on Okwagbe Street, Igbudu, Warri, following intelligence that members of a notorious cult group were mobilising for attacks.

Three suspects — Nelson Mudiagha, alias “Diara,” Efe Nyore and Ebube Ifeanyi — were arrested, while others fled.

A cut-to-size locally fabricated double-barrel gun and 17 live cartridges were recovered from the premises.

The suspects reportedly confessed to membership of the Black Axe Confraternity, also known as Aye.
