The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers along Elebu-Oja, off Alao-Akala Expressway, Ibadan.

In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said operatives of the Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Unit carried out a targeted surveillance patrol in the area aimed at apprehending the suspects and curbing further criminal activities.

According to him, the operatives arrested two suspects identified as Elijah Teejay, 21, and Ottu Emmanuel, 33, during the patrol.

He stated that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of two toy pistols and some illicit drugs, which were secured as exhibits for investigation.

The Command noted that the prompt action of its operatives helped avert a potential escalation of criminal activity and ensured the safety of residents in the area.

"Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple acts of robbery along the aforementioned axis and other locations within and outside Oyo State. 

"These individuals, who operate across state lines, have reportedly caused significant havoc in many communities, dispossessing victims of their valuables and instilling fear among residents.

"Their arrest represents a critical step towards disrupting this criminal network and restoring public confidence in the safety of the area.

"The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna psc (+), has directed that upon the conclusion of the investigation, they be charged to court in accordance with the law. 

"The Commissioner commends the members of the public for their vigilance and timely action, which directly contributed to the detection and arrest of the suspects."
