Rangers’ International striker Godwin Obaje has firmly set his sights on a dual triumph this season, disclosing his ambition to secure both the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title and the prestigious Golden Boot.

Currently a frontrunner in a high-stakes race for the highest goal scorer award, Obaje’s 11 goals place him level with Ikorodu City’s Joseph Arumala and Abia Warriors’ Emeka Obioma. The former Plateau United and Wikki Tourists talisman made his aspirations clear, noting that while the individual accolade is within reach, his primary motivation remains the collective success of the Flying Antelopes.

‎"I believe I can win the highest goal scorer award. I am sure I can win it. But my main target is to see my team win the title at the end of the season because we have many young players who now have the chance to win their first (major) trophy. And this is a life-changing advantage for them. So I will be very happy to see Rangers win the trophy," he told NPFL.com.ng.

‎He emphasized that clinching the league trophy would be a transformative milestone for the squad, particularly for the younger players who are chasing their first major career honours.

Reflecting on his career, the 30-year-old forward attributed his remarkable longevity in the top flight to a combination of divine grace, tireless hard work, and rigorous self-discipline. With over 260 verifiable NPFL appearances and a career tally of 96 goals, Obaje identified discipline as the cornerstone of his sustained performance at the highest level.

‎"I think what keeps me going this year is God and prayers, hard work, and self-discipline. For anything I am doing, discipline is very important," he explained.

‎Despite the pressure of the scoring race, he has declined to set a specific numerical target for the remainder of the campaign, stating simply that he aims to score as many goals as possible to propel his team toward the championship.

“My target for the season is for me to score as many goals as is possible to help my team," the 30-year-old Rangers forward said.

Drawing inspiration from Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Obaje remains a focal point of the Rangers attack, having already netted 11 times in 28 league appearances this season as the title race intensifies.
