The Rose of Sharon Foundation has held the first phase of its Youth Empowerment Program YEP for 2026.
The event themed: ‘Harnessing AI-Driven Resources & Exploring the Circular Economy for a Sustainable Future,’ held at the Yusuf Grillo Auditorium, Department of Arts, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and was open to all students free of charge.
According to the Country Manager of the foundation, Dr. Ndudi Bowei, the programme, is tailor-made for young people and holds twice a year- April and September.
In her welcome speech, Bowei said the programme targets four categories of young persons, namely: undergraduates of higher educational institutions, fresh graduates and job seekers, self-employed youth entrepreneurs and working class youth.
“Our programs focus on empowerment, building capacity of young persons to have that leverage and edge in the marketplace - whether you're working for yourself as an entrepreneur or self-employed person or you're working with an establishment or a corporation or if you're a fresh graduate seeking employment.
She said the theme of the programme was specifically chosen to fit the evolving technology, which is Artificial Intelligence popularly referred to as AI.
“You would agree with me that the socio-economic landscape and the human interaction ecosystem have been evolving for so many years now, and it's becoming heavily dependent on technology and digital systems, especially the one popularly known as AI, artificial intelligence. So these days, AI is engaging creativity, undertaking tasks, solving problems, trying to address the most challenges, trying to simulate human learning and make smart decisions. …So since AI has become a very big and important tool to grow, even for companies and for individuals, we thought it would be wise for us to engage in this space with young persons and that's why we are starting the first edition of our YEP this year, looking at how we can harness the available tools and resources that AI has for optimization, so you can fulfill your potentials to the optimal level.”

“AI is a blessing if you know how to utilise it. And the business of AI is also part of something that can be utilised as a source of commerce for people, as a source of income. So the essence of the programme is to empower the youth, and as you know, the greatest thing you can develop in a man is his brain, his mind.”
