The National President, National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, NASWEDEN, Engr Ogbu Uchechukwu has confirmed that the association's partnership with relevant security agencies in fighting vandalism is yielding positive results.
Ogbu stated this during the inauguration of Northern Regional Executives and 19 Northern states council in Abuja, noting that the association has a formidable team as executives in the 19 northern states are all working towards the same goal, to stop vandalism.
He said, "The reason for the inauguration is to ensure proper coverage and monitoring of scrap dealers all over Nigeria, which is why it cannot work alone but partner with all the security agencies in the country. The association is completely out to ensure scrap dealers don't engage in vandalism too by buying stolen cars, railway tracks and other government and individual properties in any part of the nation.

"Before now, scrap dealers were seen as hoodlums and associated with criminalities, it is part of the reason, in 2024 we launched what we call Operation Say No to Vandals, and we did it with the support of Inspector General of Police, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and other security agents.”
He added that the taskforce is operational in the 36 States of the country, not only in Abuja, their duty post is where members position the truck to load scraps. They are to supervise what members are loading to make sure no stolen goods are in the trucks loaded and that no truck moves out of the dumpsite without clearance.
Uchechukwu said there are serious sanctions if caught with stolen properties in your possession, you will be handed over to the security agencies for prosecution. He called for government intervention in the area of financial assistance for members.
