Prof. Bashiru Garba, Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has enjoined the newly admitted students to remain determined in their pursuit of academic excellence.
Prof. Garba gave the admonition at the S. A. S. Galandanchi Convocation Theatre during the matriculation ceremony of 6,505 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the new intakes on becoming full members of the university community, noting that their admission is a testament to the product of their hardwork, dedication and sacrifice.
Citing the privileges that comes with being a student of the university, he emphasized the need for them to pursue their studies with integrity and respect the institution.
Students were instructed to stay prepared for what lies ahead. They were also advised not to give up.
“There will be multiple academic and personal challenges. I would like to assure you that, in the face of these challenges, resilience and determination will see you through. It is our expectation that you excel in both academics and character, because degrees from Usmanu Danfodiyo University are awarded to those who demonstrate excellence in both learning and character,” Prof. Garba explained.
Using the access to available resources as an inspiration, Prof. Garba noted that ever since its establishment in 1975, the university has grown into enrolling thousands across a total of 17faculties, a College of Health Sciences, a college of postgraduate studies, school of medical laboratory sciences, school of public health, 15 research centers, yet maintaining its pride as one of the best in Nigeria.

He encouraged the students to make judicious use of their access to well-equipped libraries, research facilities, and dedicated staff members willing to support their dreams.
The VC told the students: “It is pertinent to note that the university has made enormous investment towards ensuring that you succeed. We have made available the things that you require to excel in your respective discipline. Use your time at UDUS wisely to develop into responsible and patriotic citizens of our country.”
Speaking on the significance of the event, the VC described the matriculation as “the conferment of studentship status to newly admitted students.” He marked the occasion as a new chapter in their lives as they are officially recognized as students of UDUS.
While taking the matriculation oath, the students were urged to maintain the status quo to perform the task ahead excellently.
