Seven people, mostly traders, have been reported missing following a massive fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano State. The blaze, which erupted suddenly, destroyed properties estimated at over N5 billion and affected more than 1,000 businesses, according to eyewitnesses.
Musa Ibrahim, a trader at the market, reportedly lost N340 million, while another businessman, Isa Abubakar, lost goods valued at N200 million.
The Singer Market Chairman, Junaid Zakari, confirmed the incident, describing it as one of the worst tragedies in the market’s history. He added that four residential buildings housing small-scale businesses were also gutted, severely affecting the livelihoods of hundreds of families.

“Goods, equipment, and valuables have been completely burnt,” Zakari said, appealing for support to help affected traders rebuild. “Seven people are missing. Investigation is ongoing to determine their whereabouts and to confirm whether they are alive or dead. This tragedy will not be forgotten.”
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the scene, earning praise from the victims. Emergency responders and security agencies are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
