Erstwhile Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has criticised global powers for what he called the growing trend of targeting civilian infrastructure in modern conflicts.
In a statement, Sani expressed concern over reports and the rhetoric suggesting attacks on non-military facilities, such as power plants and bridges.

He warned that such actions blur the line between conventional warfare and acts traditionally associated with terrorism.
Sani referenced ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, alleging that civilian infrastructure has increasingly become a target in military strategies.
According to him, the rules of war appear to have been eroded, with attacks on critical infrastructure now seen as tools of pressure rather than strictly military objectives.

Sani noted that such tactics often have devastating consequences for ordinary citizens, disrupting essential services, such as electricity, transportation, healthcare, and daily livelihoods.

He warned that encouraging civilian populations to rise against their governments while simultaneously targeting infrastructure could worsen humanitarian crises.
The former lawmaker called for a return to international norms governing armed conflict, stressing the need to protect civilian lives and infrastructure in line with global humanitarian standards.
He added that failure to uphold these principles risks normalizing widespread suffering and undermining global peace efforts.
