Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday said he left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Accord Party to avoid being trapped, which could jeopardise his chances of securing second term on August 15.
Six PDP House of Representatives members have dumped the party for Accord Party to boost victory chances of Governor Adeleke ahead of the governorship election.
The six members are Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun), Mudashiru Alani (Iwo), Larne Oladebo (Irewolede) and Clement Olohunwa (Boluwaduro.
The National Assembly members declared their defection at the PDP State Secretariat, Powerline, Osogbo as the party led by Sunday Bisi, deployed the structure of the party from polling units to state level for the victory of Adeleke in the 2026 poll.
Addressing his supporters, Adeleke said: “I love PDP, but I have to leave to avoid being trapped in my re-election. I confided in some of our leaders that I trust, and we started consulting and praying to God over it. We were guided to Accord Party; you see that the party is the first on the ballot.

“I want to urge all of you that on August 15, you should vote massively for Accord Party, then victory is guaranteed for us. I thank the family of PDP because I am part of the family. I thank you all for the endorsement of today. I accept it whole heartedly. I want to thank Accord Party for accepting me.”
Osun PDP Chairman Bisi said the party was confronted with a leadership crisis at the national level, a crisis which festered to the point where they were unable to present a candidate for the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking on behalf of the defecting National Assembly members, Olohunwa urged their supporters to vote for Accord Party.
In a related development, former chairman of Boripe Local Government, Kareem Afolabi, and 15 other leaders of APC, who are kinsmen of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, have defected to the Accord Party to support the re-election bid of Governor Adeleke.
