Elfin Song

“I may never live

     Beyond the age of forty”

The Elf once said

In a moment blue and very dark

“Flowers bloom their best

     Before the sun's descendent assault

The drum unleashes its loudest

When its membrane is taut and tight”

“Think and think again”,

     The Caring Wizard advised,

Life's road may scare and sadden

     With hills and hurdles

But below those hills

     Are valleys with hidden treasures

Waiting night and day

     For the conquerors of pain

The sun which withers the petals

Also ripens the patient fruit.

      *

Pithy Snaps

Life is a wound

Kindness is its balm

Love, its doctor

      *

Humanity is still learning

The safest way

To foretell the Past

And recall the future
