The Southern Borno Youths Forum has declared support for Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan’s bid for the Borno State governorship in 2027.

In a statement issued on Friday, the forum’s chairman, Yas Biu, said the endorsement was based on the senator’s courage and sustained commitment to rebuilding communities devastated by insurgency.

He noted that Kaka Shehu has consistently supported the efforts of Governor Babagana Zulum in stabilising and developing affected areas.

Biu added that the decision was also influenced by the lawmaker’s growing acceptance among key stakeholders, including party leaders, political stalwarts, traditional rulers, and members of the business community, particularly traders.

The statement said, "As Babagana Umara Zulum approaches the end of his tenure, the people of Borno State will undoubtedly miss his exceptional leadership and commitment. However, the state must now look ahead and consolidate on these gains by choosing a credible, courageous, and experienced successor.

"In this regard, stakeholders across Southern Borno strongly endorse Kaka Shehu Lawan as the ideal candidate to lead the state at this critical time.

"Borno needs a fearless and decisive leader who can sustain and build upon the strides made in tackling insecurity. Senator Lawan has consistently demonstrated bravery and commitment, often accompanying Governor Zulum to remote and volatile areas, engaging directly with communities affected by insurgency.

"His courage and firsthand experience in conflict zones underscore his capacity to confront insecurity head-on until Borno regains its status as the “Home of Peace.”

"As chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Duties, he has acquired vast experience in handling sensitive national assignments. That experience is both relevant and invaluable to Borno State at this time.

"Beyond security, Senator Lawan possesses a clear vision for governance. His policy direction emphasizes transparency, accountability, and people-centered development. His approach is rooted in practical solutions designed to meet the needs of the populace while strengthening institutions for sustainable progress.

"His commitment to human capital development, alongside a strong focus on infrastructure, reflects a balanced agenda aimed at holistic growth and prosperity for all citizens.

"Party stakeholders, stalwarts, traditional rulers, and members of the business community, including traders, are already rallying behind his candidacy ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

"Ultimately, this endorsement is not just about occupying an office, but about proven experience, dedication, and a lifelong commitment to service. Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan has demonstrated that he is ready and capable of leading Borno State into a new era of stability and development.

"As Borno State looks ahead to 2027, the conversation around credible, experienced, and people-oriented leadership continues to grow stronger. Among the names gaining wide acceptance across communities is Kaka Shehu Lawan, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) whose track record reflects commitment, integrity, and service to the people.

"Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan stands out not only for his professional excellence but also for his deep understanding of governance, law, and public administration. His years of service have positioned him as a bridge between leadership and the grassroots, earning him the trust and admiration of many across Borno State.

"It is no surprise that many citizens see in him a continuation of the impactful leadership demonstrated by His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum. Governor Zulum’s dedication to rebuilding and stabilizing Borno has set a standard, and stakeholders believe that Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan possesses the capacity to sustain and advance these achievements.

"The growing support for his potential governorship ambition reflects the people’s desire for continuity, progress, and inclusive governance. As 2027 approaches, Borno deserves a leader who understands its challenges and is prepared to build on its successes, and many believe Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan is that leader.

"His vision prioritises security, education, and economic empowerment, aligning with the aspirations of Borno’s resilient people. With growing grassroots support, Kaka Shehu Lawan represents hope for sustainable development and unity, complementing the remarkable strides of Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum."
