Sporting Lagos began their 2026 Nigeria National League Super Four campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Ranchers Bees in Ikenne yesterday, while Inter Lagos suffered a narrow defeat to Doma United in the day’s second fixture.
The Lagos-based Tech Boys started brightly, showing attacking intent from the opening whistle. Their early pressure nearly paid off in the 17th minute when Seun Akanji created the first real chance, but his effort was well saved by the Ranchers Bees goalkeeper.
Sporting Lagos maintained control for much of the first half, with Aliyu Baba also posing a threat in attack. Despite dominating possession, they initially struggled to break down a disciplined Ranchers Bees defence.
The breakthrough finally came in the 40th minute. A smooth move on the flank saw Shola Oladunjoye link up with Seun Akanji, whose precise cross found Alex Leme. The forward rose above his marker to head home the only goal of the match.

Ranchers Bees pushed for an equaliser after the break but could not find a way past a well-organised Sporting Lagos defence, as the “Tech Boys” held on to secure maximum points.
Akanji, who provided the assist and remained influential throughout, was named Man of the Match. He praised his teammates after the game and emphasised the need to stay focused.
“This award means a lot, but it’s about the team. Everyone worked hard for this win. We are happy with the start, but we must stay focused and keep improving,” he said.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and his assistant Daniel Ogunmodede were also in attendance.
Action continues on Wednesday as Ranchers Bees face Inter Lagos, while Sporting Lagos take on Doma United in a top-of-the-table clash.
