Sporting Lagos have seized firm control of the Nigeria National League Super 4, turning the title race into a one-team procession with a ruthless display of attacking power and defensive discipline following a 4-0 victory over Doma United yesterday.
The 'Tech Boys' sit comfortably at the summit with six points from two games and a commanding +5 goal difference, placing them on the brink of clinching the ₦10 million grand prize.
Their dominance has not only underlined their credentials but also set up a high-stakes, all-Lagos finale against Inter Lagos.
Their latest statement came in emphatic fashion a 4-0 demolition of Doma United that effectively tilted the balance of the competition.
Seun Akanji, fresh off his previous Man of the Match performance, ignited the rout in the 27th minute after latching onto a fine assist from Victor Samuel.
Sporting Lagos picked up right where they left off after the break, with Shola Oladunjoye reacting quickest to a spilled ball by the Doma United goalkeeper to double the advantage in the 47th minute.
As Doma United struggled to contain the relentless pressure, Solomon Uloko delivered the final blows with a clinical brace in the 81st and 88th minutes, sealing the biggest win of the tournament so far and earning Man of the Match honours.
Earlier in the day, Inter Lagos reignited their campaign with a crucial 2-0 victory over Ranchers Bees at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Both sides had stumbled in their opening fixtures and entered the clash knowing anything less than a win would all but end their hopes.
After a wasteful first half, Inter Lagos found their rhythm just two minutes into the restart, with Dotun Akinpelu breaking the deadlock. Confidence surged, and Bayo Oyedele calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 71st minute to secure all three points.
The result lifts Inter Lagos to second place with three points and a +1 goal difference, keeping their title hopes alive heading into a decisive Lagos derby against Sporting Lagos.
In contrast, Ranchers Bees’ second straight defeat condemns them to elimination, leaving them rooted at the bottom without a point and resigned to the ₦2 million consolation prize.
Doma United, also on three points but hampered by a damaging -4 goal difference, face Ranchers Bees in their final fixture with only pride left to salvage.
All eyes now turn to tomorrow’s explosive finale in Ikenne, where Sporting Lagos will look to complete a perfect run and seal the crown, while Inter Lagos must produce something extraordinary to snatch the title from their city rivals.
