The organizers of Nigeria’s most credible sports honors, the Sportsville Special Recognition Awards, have officially announced the date for the 2026 edition.

According to a statement released by the Chairman of the Award Committee, Harry Iwuala, the ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28th at the prestigious Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.

"We are delighted to announce a date following a painstaking planning and selection process," said Iwuala, who also serves as the Media Director of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). "After months of preparation, we are ready to host an event that reflects our commitment to excellence."

While the full list of honourees is yet to be revealed, Iwuala assured the public that the recipients represent the pinnacle of sports development in Nigeria. "Our selection process remains rigorous to uphold our motto: Credibility."

Marking its sixth year, the awards continue to grow in influence. Frank Ilaboya, CEO of Sportsville Communication Ltd, promised a ceremony filled with fresh innovations.

"I am incredibly proud of the impact these awards have made over the last five years," Ilaboya stated. "Our focus has always been on ensuring that only those truly deserving are honoured. This year, we are awarding excellence across seven key categories: Sports Icon, Sports Personality, Sports Transformative, Special Recognition, Achievers, Innovative, and Sports Facilities."

Ilaboya added that the ultimate goal is to establish the Sportsville Special Recognition Award as the premier sports honors not just in Nigeria, but across the African continent.

The Sportsville Special Recognition Award was established five years ago to celebrate two decades of Shortsville’s continuous broadcast excellence. Today, Sportsville stands as one of the longest-running independent sports shows in sub-Saharan Africa.
