...reiterates commitment to partnership in fight against insecurity

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Igboho highlighted Disu’s extensive experience in crime management, saying he is well-positioned to curb insecurity across the country. Disu assumed office as the 23rd IGP following the exit of Kayode Egbetokun, the immediate past police chief.

During a visit to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Hashimu Argungu, Igboho expressed confidence that the new acting IGP’s previous strategic postings and educational background would revitalize the Nigerian Police Force.

Accompanied by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Taiwo Lakano and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, Igboho also called for national unity in supporting President Tinubu's progressive socioeconomic development agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

He commended the efforts of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and other paramilitary agencies, reaffirming his commitment to effective collaboration in strengthening the nation’s security sector.

He said, "During the meeting, we discussed key issues regarding security and peace in the South West and Nigeria in general. I assured our host of my readiness and commitment to synergise in ensuring a more safe and secured Yorubaland if given approval by President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.

"Without a peaceful and enabling atmosphere in the society, we cannot achieve any meaningful growth for our country. That is why everyone should cooperate with the government at all tiers to guarantee peace and tranquility in Nigeria.

"Various issues affecting the South West were painstakingly discussed and solutions were proffered. For the sake of peace, I want to affirm my position that the Igbos should present a common front to midwife the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence in Sokoto Correctional facility."
