Team Nigeria will depart for Gaborone, Botswana, today  to compete in the Lefika International Relays, a critical final window for securing berths at the upcoming World Athletics Relay Championships.

The contingent, traveling via Ethiopian Airlines, aims to qualify the remaining four relay teams for the global showpiece scheduled for May. While Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m and 4x400m squads have already secured their spots, the pressure is now on the Men’s 4x100m, Men’s 4x400m, and the Mixed 4x100m and 4x400m teams to finalize their qualification.

"The objective is clear: we are going to Gaborone to pick up the remaining tickets," said a representative of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN). "The athletes have undergone six weeks of intensive transition and baton-exchange drills in Asaba to ensure technical precision."

The delegation is led by AFN President Tonobok Okowa, Secretary General Israel Inwang, and Technical Director Gabriel Okon. The roster features a strategic mix of veteran sprinters and emerging talent, including Ifeanyi Ojeli, Patience Okon George and Badmus Gafari.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has thrown its weight behind the mission, viewing the Lefika Relays as a dress rehearsal for the World Championships, which will also be hosted in the Botswana capital.

TEAM ROSTER:

Men: Badmus Gafari Atanda, Ezeakor Chidera, Emmanuel James Taiwo, Ojeli Ifeanyi Emmanuel, Nathaniel Samson, Adeyemi Sikiru Adewale, Sampson Victor Ime, Godwin Tejiri.

Women: Enaruna Anita Itohan, George Patience Okon, Andrew Jecinter Lawrence, Chukwuka Obi Jennifer, Omokwe Maria Thompson.
