Bayer Leverkusen have officially confirmed that Nigeria international Nathan Tella has signed a new long-term contract extension, keeping him at the BayArena until June 30, 2031.

The 26-year-old winger’s previous agreement was slated to expire in the summer of 2028. By adding three years to his existing deal, the Bundesliga champions have signalled a major long-term commitment to the versatile attacker, who arrived from Southampton in 2023 for a reported £20 million.

Leverkusen Sporting Director Simon Rolfes hailed Tella’s influence on and off the pitch following the announcement.

"We are delighted to be able to keep such a likeable and top-class professional in our ranks for the long term," Rolfes told the club’s official website. "Nathan is a key player on the pitch and an extremely important player in the locker room. In sporting terms, his pace and footballing quality are outstanding attributes."

Since joining the Werkself, Tella has made 95 appearances across all competitions, contributing 10 goals and 14 assists. Despite battling knee and foot injuries that have limited his minutes this season, the Nigerian international remains a central figure in the club's plans.

Reflecting on the extension, Tella expressed his intent to help the side sustain its recent success.

“I really feel at home at Bayer 04; the first few years have seen a lot of fantastic successes,” Tella said. “It’s great fun to now be part of the development of a new and powerful team. I’m sure we will achieve our goals again in the coming years.”
