...lauds ‘Zulu’ for youth development through football

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday congratulated renowned grassroots football promoter and sports administrator, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, commending his enduring contributions to youth development and sports advancement in Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, marking Adeyinka’s milestone birthday, the President praised the celebrant’s dedication to nurturing young talents through sports and his role in promoting peace and security in Lagos State.

President Tinubu noted that Adeyinka, widely known by the nickname “Zulu,” has over the years distinguished himself as a committed advocate for grassroots football, creating opportunities for many young Nigerians to discover their talents and build meaningful lives.

According to the President, Adeyinka’s efforts have helped many young people find fulfilment and a pathway to success through sports, particularly football, which remains one of the most popular avenues for youth engagement in the country.

“Adeyinka’s work has positively impacted the lives of countless youths who have found direction and purpose through sports,” the President said, highlighting the importance of grassroots initiatives in national development.

The President also acknowledged Adeyinka’s role in the establishment and management of Team Lagos, a sports development initiative founded 27 years ago that has collaborated with the Lagos State Government to promote youth engagement, peace and community security.

Through the activities of Team Lagos, Tinubu said, sports have been deployed as a powerful tool for social cohesion and crime prevention, helping to channel the energies of young people into productive pursuits.

Adeyinka currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, a position in which he continues to champion policies and programmes aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s grassroots sporting ecosystem.

Before his appointment to the Presidency, Adeyinka had served in key roles within the Lagos State Government, including as Special Assistant to the Governor on Football Matters between 2013 and 2015.

He later served as Senior Special Assistant on Sports, where he coordinated sports development programmes and grassroots sporting activities across Lagos State.

Beyond public service, Adeyinka is also the Chairman of Smart City Football Club, further demonstrating his long-standing commitment to the promotion of football and youth empowerment.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation for Adeyinka’s decades of service to sports development and his consistent efforts in supporting young Nigerians to achieve their aspirations.

The President wished the celebrant continued good health, longevity and many more years of impactful service to Lagos State and the nation.
