President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Pa Nathaniel Okoro, the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), on the occasion of his 95th birthday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Pa Okoro for his enduring contributions to the development of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure.

Tinubu described the nonagenarian as a visionary administrator whose leadership laid a strong foundation for the country’s railway modernisation efforts.

The President particularly acknowledged Pa Okoro’s role in developing a 25-year rail master plan, which later translated into the introduction of standard-gauge lines and other modern structures in the sector.

According to the statement, the pioneer NRC chief executive played a pivotal role in shaping rail transportation in post-independence Nigeria, helping to facilitate safe and efficient rail movement across the country.

Tinubu noted that Pa Okoro’s foresight and dedication contributed significantly to strengthening the nation’s transport architecture at a critical stage in its early years as an independent state.

The President said the elder statesman’s legacy continues to resonate in ongoing rail development initiatives aimed at boosting connectivity, trade and economic growth.

“As Pa Okoro celebrates his 95th birthday, President Tinubu thanks him for his services to the nation and prays that God Almighty will grant him more years of good health and strength,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation, established to manage the country’s rail transport system, has in recent years undergone reforms and upgrades, including the development of modern standard-gauge corridors designed to improve passenger and freight services.

Observers say Pa Okoro’s pioneering efforts provided the strategic blueprint that continues to influence Nigeria’s railway expansion and modernisation drive.

With his 95th birthday, the President joined family, friends and associates in celebrating a life dedicated to public service and national development.
