  • President lauds her trailblazing legacy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila on yesterday’s celebration of her 96th birthday.

The President described her as a renowned community leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose life has been marked by resilience and service.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President celebrated the nonagenarian as the matriarch of the Gbajabiamila family and mother of his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

President Tinubu extolled her industry, fortitude and unwavering dedication to the service of God and humanity, noting that her nearly a century of life has been defined by impact and leadership at the grassroots and beyond.

The President acknowledged Mama Gbajabiamila’s significant contributions to the development of her community, Lagos State, and the nation at large, paying tribute to her historic achievement as the first female elected local government chairperson in the state, a milestone that underscored her pioneering spirit in public service.

He further highlighted her distinguished healthcare career, recalling that as a United Kingdom-trained nurse, she served as a role model in the profession.

According to the President, Mama Gbajabiamila deployed her knowledge, experience and personal resources to inspire, mentor and uplift many within the noble calling of nursing.

President Tinubu said her story remains a source of inspiration to women in leadership, healthcare professionals and community builders across the country, particularly at a time when Nigeria continues to emphasise grassroots development and inclusive participation in governance.

The President prayed that Almighty God would continue to grant the elder stateswoman good health, strength and peace in the years ahead, so she may sustain her good works and remain a guiding light to her family and society.
