President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the death of former Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Chief Israel Ogbue, at 99.
In a statement issued yesterday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ogbue as a distinguished public servant and accomplished corporate leader.
Ogbue had a career spanning the Federal Civil Service, the National Insurance Corporation (NICON) and NAL Merchant Bank before joining UBA’s board. He served as a non-executive director from 2005 to 2011 and was Chairman between 2011 and 2013.

Tinubu said Ogbue provided steady and principled leadership during a pivotal period in the bank’s transformation.
The late Ogbue was the father of Dr. Awele Elumelu, wife of UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu. The President extended his condolences to the Elumelu family and the bank’s board, management and staff, noting that tributes have continued to honour his life of service and integrity.
