The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has assured teachers and other stakeholders that its digital portal is now fully operational.
The portal had a disruption in December, but this has been resolved.
Addressing reporters yesterday in Abuja, TRCN’s Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, said the portal downtime lasted just one week and was swiftly resolved after the council parted ways with its former service provider and migrated to a new developer.
Soyombo dismissed claims of ongoing technical failures as misleading and politically motivated
The registrar emphasised that TRCN remained committed to efficiency and revenue generation.
She said: “In December, we had some issues with the developer. So, our portal was down for one week. We resolved it and switched to another developer.
“Every agency is expected to remit 50 per cent of its earnings. It would be counterproductive to announce an examination while the portal is faulty.”
Acknowledging that some teachers still struggle to access the portal due to limited digital literacy, Dr. Soyombo stated that alternative channels, including physical registration at state offices, remain available.
“At no time in January was the portal down,” she added.

Advising stakeholders on how to bridge the digital divide, particularly for rural teachers with poor internet access, the registrar highlighted ongoing initiatives, including help desk officers in tertiary institutions, mobile outreach programs, and sensitisation campaigns in underserved communities.
According to her, collaboration with stakeholders, such as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), state education commissioners and administrators, has also been key to improving access.
“While we are not fully there yet, we are making significant efforts to ensure inclusivity and reach teachers in rural areas,” she said.
Dr. Soyombo announced the agency’s plans to launch a mobile application by the end of April to make portal access more convenient.
The registrar said the TRCN was also considering offline integration options.
The registrar reiterated that all educators, from early childhood to tertiary level, must be registered and certified by the TRCN.
“Whether you teach children or adults, you must be certified. The minimum qualification is the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or a degree with relevant education training, such as a postgraduate diploma in education,” she said.
