Troops arrest gunrunner, recover arms in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected gunrunner during a stop-and-search operation at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The suspect was arrested following intelligence reports, a statement from the Brigade said Saturday evening.

The troops intercepted an Audi vehicle with Abuja registration number RBC798DV and arrested the driver, identified as Monday Reuben, 48, from Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Items recovered from the suspect include two AK-47 rifles, 197 empty magazines, a box of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition containing 250 rounds, 14 packs of 9mm ammunition with 700 rounds, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Troops also recovered N2.44 million, mobile phones, ATM and identification cards, assorted charms and other personal items.

The suspect and the recovered items are in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

The Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops, urging them to sustain ongoing operations against criminal activities in the state.
