Troops on internal security operations in Zamfara State arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator, Mallam Kabiru, and rescued 18 kidnap victims, including infants and women.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major-Gen Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

He said the suspected collaborator was arrested on April 5, after being sighted in the company of terrorist kingpin Mallam Ado Alero shortly after an encounter with troops at Kulchin Kalgo in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

“The suspect is in custody undergoing preliminary interrogation,” Onoja said.

The defence spokesperson said the 18 kidnap victims were rescued on April 8, after troops received a distress call that terrorists had invaded and abducted an unconfirmed number of locals at Gidan Madi Village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

He said: “Troops mobilised, laid ambush at a known terrorist crossing point within the same local government area, made contact with the terrorists, and forced them to abandon their victims and withdraw. A total of 18 locals, including two infants, were rescued.”

Onoja said the rescued persons were subsequently handed over to the Traditional Ruler of Wurno for reunite them with their families.
