• Disrupt IPOB kidnap plot, recover five in South East

• 18-year-old suspected terrorist surrender in Yobe

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the North East have neutralised several terrorists and rescued three children.

The Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt-Col. Sani Uba, who disclosed in a statement yesterday, said the operation was conducted on Friday.

In a related development, troops of Operation UDO KA foiled a kidnap attempt by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), rescuing five victims in the process.

Lt-Col. Uba said the troops, while on a fighting patrol, engaged suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters near Sabsawa village in Borno State.

He said the troops responded with what he described as overwhelming firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray and killing five of them in the encounter.

“Similarly, troops of OPHK under Sector 1, deployed at Ngurosoye, rescued three abducted children — Abba Abba, 12; Fatima Abba, 8; and Aisha Abba, 6 — during a perimeter patrol in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State,” Uba said.

The OPHK spokesperson explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted about two months ago along the Gubio axis of Borno State by suspected terrorists before they were moved to Bula-Daloye.

“The children have been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further necessary action,” he said.

Uba added that an 18-year-old terrorist suspect, Abubakar Abubakar, surrendered to troops in Geidam, Yobe State. He said the suspect was already in custody undergoing profiling.

“Across other sectors of OPHK, troops in aggressive posture conducted offensive operations in collaboration with hybrid forces, vigilantes and hunters to deny terrorists freedom of action.

“All operations were largely hitch-free, while ongoing exploitation and monitoring continued across the theatre,” he said.

Troops of Operation UDO KA also foiled a kidnap attempt by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday, rescuing five victims in the process.

A credible military source told The Nation yesterday that the troops responded to a distress call at about 6 pm on Friday following an attack at 9th Mile axis by suspected IPOB members on commuters travelling to Anambra State.

The source said the troops demonstrated exceptional vigilance and combat readiness, swiftly mobilising to the scene to confront the attackers.

“On arrival, the troops decisively engaged the armed elements, overwhelming them with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvre.

“The swift and aggressive response forced the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into surrounding bushes.

“As a result, five kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt, while their vehicle was recovered intact, dealing a significant blow to the criminal network operating in the area,” the source said.

According to the source, following the operation, the troops sustained aggressive patrols and aerial domination to prevent regrouping, track fleeing suspects and deny criminal elements any freedom of action.

“This sustained presence has reinforced public confidence, reassured commuters and further degraded the operational capabilities of hostile actors across the sector,” the source said.
