Two ex-convicts, others nabbed for culpable homicide in Kogi

The police said the ex-convicts had earlier been convicted of armed robbery and culpable homicide linked to the death of 16 people.
The spokesman for the Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Salihu Afusat, confirmed the information in a statement yesterday in Lokoja.

According to her, trouble started for the two ex-convicts on March 18, this year. when the Command received a report of a culpable homicide involving one Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Otokiti, Lokoja.
The command’s spokesman said the victim, a fresh graduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University awaiting call-up for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), had left home in the morning of the said date on his tricycle in search of daily earnings but never returned, prompting concern from his family before his lifeless body was later discovered within the vicinity of the CBN area, Zone 8, Lokoja.
She said the operatives of the Homicide Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), launched a discreet investigation into the killing. They arrested the two suspects, who it was shown that they were ex-convicts.
Investigation into the case had been concluded, and the suspects were charged to Magistrates’ Court 5, Lokoja, where they have been remanded in custody, she added.
