A United States-based prominent member of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has cautioned members against allowing the outcome of the just-concluded election to create division within the body.

Chief Executive Officer of SPOTLESS in Minutes, Dadiowei Kingsley Akpeti, described the INC as a formidable socio-cultural group and stressed that the election outcome should strengthen, rather than weaken, the bond among members.

He noted that in any credible electoral process, a winner must emerge, pointing out that this was reflected in the emergence of Chief Barrister MacDonald Igadiwe as president of the congress.

Akpeti urged other contestants to also see themselves as winners, citing the spirit of brotherhood among the Ijaw people. He further commended the electoral committee (Eleco), led by HRM Justice Francis Tabai (rtd), for setting a standard that could serve as a model for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the conduct of credible elections ahead of 2027.

According to him, despite minor challenges, the election was smooth and well-coordinated, demonstrating that a properly managed process can be conducted without rancour.

He described Igadiwe as deserving of victory, citing his humility, grassroots appeal, and commitment to transparent leadership. Akpeti added that the president had reassured him of plans to bring meaningful change to the INC.

He also praised other contestants, including Prof. Osaisai and Engr. Wodu, for their efforts, noting that while only one person can win, the success of one should be seen as a collective victory.

Akpeti called on the new leadership of the INC to prioritise development by engaging members in the diaspora.

As part of his contribution to the organisation’s growth, he pledged to sponsor an event to host the winners through the INDG platform. He also disclosed plans to invite the INC leadership to a business and familiarisation dinner in Houston, to be hosted by his company, SPOTLESS, as part of activities to launch its new office and training centre for Ijaw youths in the Texas region.
