The Vice-Chancellor of Mercy Medical University, Iwara, Osun State, Professor Ibrahim Muhammad, has urged the institution's 1,180 newly admitted students to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, to meet global healthcare needs.

He stressed that the global healthcare system urgently requires competent and compassionate practitioners capable of meeting evolving medical challenges.

Speaking at the 3rd Matriculation ceremony, Professor Muhammad congratulated the 1,180 students of the institution, noting that “Your academic journey marks a life-changing experience that will shape your future and define your contribution to society.”

He said: “As future healthcare professionals, you are being prepared not only to acquire knowledge and skills but also to embody empathy, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to saving lives. The journey ahead will be rigorous and demanding, but it will also be rewarding and transformative.

“The future of healthcare lies in your hands. The world is in need of competent, compassionate, and ethical medical professionals. I encourage you to strive for excellence, remain focused, and make the most of every opportunity presented to you.”

He urged the students to approach their studies with seriousness and a strong sense of purpose by attending lectures diligently, engaging actively in practical sessions, and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience their lecturers offer.

Also, the Chancellor of the institution, Ambassador Musa Ibeto, warned that anti-social behaviour has no place in Mercy Medical University, stressing that the varsity authorities will be firm in confronting all forms of anti-social behaviour whenever it is found on campus.

The proprietor of the institution, Dr. Abdulfatai Onifade, also admonished the students to be careful with their actions and movement, saying: “Don't turn to social vices for pecuniary gain. Be wary of instant gratification; don't collect Greek gifts, those criminals will always come to school areas to search for victims. Don't disappoint your parents and the school; you are here for a purpose, and you should face it squarely.”
