Governor of Borno State, Prof. , has called on Nigerians to build societies anchored on righteousness, equity and mutual respect.
Speaking at the 31st Pre-Ramadan Lecture organised by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) at the JF. Ade Ajayi Auditorium of the University of Lagos, Akoka, Zulum said leaders and citizens alike must allow the spiritual lessons of Ramadan to shape their collective aspirations.
The governor was represented by Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, and other senior officials from the state.
He said: “We must build societies anchored on righteousness, equity, and mutual respect. We must extend compassion to the vulnerable, uplift the downtrodden, and promote unity across lines of faith and ethnicity. For it is through such noble virtues that we reflect the true essence of Islam.”
He stressed that compassion for the vulnerable and unity across faiths and ethnicities remain essential to national development.
The governor urged Nigerians to extend support to the downtrodden, promote peaceful coexistence, and reflect the true essence of Islam through noble virtues and responsible conduct.
He commended the organisers of the annual lecture for sustaining the initiative for 31 years, describing the continuity as a testament to their commitment to spiritual enlightenment and intellectual engagement.

According to him, universities remain citadels of knowledge, and when knowledge is harmonised with faith, societies flourish.
Zulum encouraged Muslims to always renew their intentions, mend broken relationships, forgive past grievances and commit to deeds that would outlive them.
According to him, “Ramadan is not merely a season of fasting; it is a season of transformation. It is a divine training ground where self-restraint refines character, where generosity strengthens social bonds, and where prayer reconnects the soul to its Creator. It is a reminder that true success lies not in accumulation, but in purification of the heart, the mind, and the soul.”
