First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for sustained support for science and increased investment in health systems as part of efforts to build a healthier and more resilient global community.
In her message to commemorate World Health Day 2026 on Tuesday, the First Lady urged governments, institutions, and stakeholders worldwide to prioritise scientific innovation and collaborative action in addressing evolving health challenges.
“As we mark this important day, as a global community, let us continue to support science, invest in health systems, and work together to build a healthier and more resilient world for all,” she said.
Reflecting on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” Mrs Tinubu noted that progress in healthcare delivery has always depended on innovation and strong partnerships across nations and sectors.
According to her, scientific collaboration has played a critical role in overcoming major global health challenges and remains essential in guiding humanity toward healthier living.
The First Lady also highlighted the importance of the One Health approach, which recognises the interconnection between human, animal, plant, and environmental health.
She stressed that a holistic understanding of these relationships is vital in preventing diseases, improving public health outcomes, and ensuring sustainable development.
Mrs Tinubu further called for strengthened cooperation among governments, health professionals, researchers, and communities to advance healthcare systems capable of responding effectively to present and future challenges.
She reiterated that building resilient health systems requires not only investment in infrastructure and personnel but also sustained commitment to research, innovation, and knowledge-sharing.
