The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government council chairmen over alleged financial misappropriation.

This was disclosed in a statement by the House spokesperson, Bello Madaro Kurya, who said the action reflects efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in local government administration across the state.

The affected officials are Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council and Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum Local Government Council.

According to the statement, the decision followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during plenary. The report was presented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the committee.

The report forms part of an ongoing investigation into the financial activities of the 14 local government councils in the state for the 2025 fiscal year.

He said, “The Committee recommended the suspension of two Executive Chairmen, Hon. Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council and Hon. Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum Local Government Council, for their deliberate refusal to honour invitations extended to them by the committee”.

“The invitations were issued to enable them to provide explanations regarding the expenditure of funds allocated to their respective councils”.

“Following deliberations presided over by the Speaker Hon Bilyaminu Moriki, the House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations and approved the immediate suspension of the two Chairmen pending the conclusion of the investigation”.

Kurya maintained that the affected officials have been directed to hand over the administration of their councils to their respective Vice chairmen without delay.

He said the House identified acts of disrespect to the legislative institution, as well as a lack of transparency and accountability, as the primary infractions warranting the disciplinary action.

“Furthermore, the Honourable House deliberated extensively on the report titled “Investigation into the Financial Activities of the 14 Local Government Councils for the Financial Year 2025” and resolved to adopt all recommendations contained therein.”

“The resolutions have been duly transmitted to the Executive for implementation in the interest of good governance and fiscal discipline”.

“The Zamfara State House of Assembly reiterates its commitment to upholding accountability, ensuring prudent management of public resources, and safeguarding the trust reposed in public office holders by the people”.

All efforts to speak to the concerned Chairmen prove abortive as they refuse to respond to calls.
