The immediate past Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has met with the state executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence in his chances of winning the 2027 governorship election.
Adelabu, who addressed party executives at the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado, said the meeting was to formally notify them of his intention to contest, adding that he is optimistic about securing the party’s ticket and emerging victorious at the polls.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and commitment to the development of Oyo State, pledging to deploy his experience and energy to advance governance if elected.
The former minister assured party leaders and residents that no part of the state would be neglected, promising inclusive governance and tangible benefits for the people.
Adelabu also disclosed that he enjoys the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a father figure, expressing confidence that with the backing of party members and residents, his ambition would succeed.
He noted that the outcome of the 2027 election would be crucial for the APC’s future in the state, warning that the results would determine whether the party retains its foothold in Oyo.
The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said his ambition is driven by collective interest, urging party members to remain united in repositioning the APC.
He cautioned against any aspirant laying claim to sole candidacy, insisting that any consensus arrangement must involve party executives, aspirants and key stakeholders across different blocs within the party.
Adelabu commended the current state executive of the APC, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen the party ahead of the next election cycle.
“I hold the party in high esteem. We all have a responsibility to build this party together to get to our desired destination. I will always carry the party along in whatever I do if elected governor in 2027. I will prioritise the interest of the party.”
In his remarks, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo, commended Adelabu's consultative approach and commitment to party processes, describing him as a loyal member with the capacity to deliver victory at the polls.
APC executives in attendance included the party's Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Taofek Lamidi; Barr. Fatai Adenine (Secretary); Mrs Felicia Adekemi (Women Leader); Com Olalekan Glory (Youth Leader); and Barr. Sunday Aborisade (Legal Adviser), among others.
