A female aspirant for the Ondo South senatorial District and former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, called on her fellow contestants in the race to prioritise the re-election of President Bola Tinubu over their personal ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Monday in Akure, Akindele said individual political aspirations should not undermine the party’s collective objective of securing President Tinubu’s second term bid.
"While our ambition at this moment is negotiable, the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is non-negotiable," she said.
She reminded her co-contesants for the primaries of the senatorial race that the APC in the state had already set a target of delivering at least 'one million votes' for President Tinubu.
While warning that internal divisions among aspirants could jeopardise that goal, Akindele proposed a meeting among aspirants to align interests and develop a common strategy ahead of the elections.
She called for unity among aspirants, stressing that political contests should strengthen rather than weaken the party.
"Since we have all agreed that from Ondo State alone we must give him not less than a million votes, we must do nothing to jeopardise that goal, particularly on the altar of our personal goals.
"Our contests should sharpen us, not scatter us. The very platform that carries our aspirations must not become collateral damage in the pursuit of individual goals.
"Let us meet. Let us talk, frankly, intelligently, and purposefully. Let us align where it matters most," the aspirant said.
The former Speaker further urged aspirants to act strategically rather than emotionally in pursuing their ambitions.
"We must each ask ourselves: are we acting strategically, or merely reacting emotionally? Ego has its place, but not at the expense of opportunity,” she added.
Akindele, however, urged the aspirants to place party unity above personal interests, noting that such cohesion is critical to electoral success.
