Head coach of Abia Warriors, Imama Amapakabo, insists that the NPFL title race remains unpredictable despite his side’s 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United.

The slim win in Aba lifted Abia Warriors to fourth place with 52 points, just three behind leaders Rangers International FC, with five matches left in the season.

While pleased with the result, Amapakabo admitted his team struggled in attack and must improve their efficiency.

“We were poor in attack and not covering enough gaps. We created chances, but our biggest problem this season has been converting them.”

He suggested that the pressure of other match results may have influenced his players’ performance, knowing victory would bring them back into contention.

“I don’t know if it was the pressure from other results. We knew that if we won, we would be back in the title race.”

Despite closing the gap on the leaders, the experienced tactician believes no team among the top six can confidently claim the title yet.

“The league is still very open. No team in the top six can comfortably say they will win it at this stage.”

Attention now shifts to a tough away fixture against Bendel Insurance in Benin City, where Amapakabo expects another stern test.

“We are going to Benin, and if you look at the top six, everyone has difficult games. We remain focused and hope for a good result.”

He also highlighted the need for better composure in possession.

“We were too hasty with the ball. We need to circulate it better.”
