Prophetess Debora Abiara Olubusayo of Ephaptha Intercessory International Ministry has urged believers to be mindful of their thoughts, stressing that a person’s mindset plays a crucial role in shaping their life and spiritual journey.
In a devotional message issued to The Nation, titled “You Are What You Think: Your Thoughts Control Your Life,” Olubusayo emphasized that thoughts influence emotions, actions, and overall well-being, warning that negative thinking can lead to destructive patterns while positive thinking can inspire success and fulfillment.
Quoting the Bible, she referenced Proverbs 4:23 which states, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” According to her, the scripture underscores the need for individuals to guard their minds against harmful thoughts that may affect their destiny.
“The power of thoughts cannot be underestimated. What you constantly think about can shape how you live, how you see yourself, and how you respond to life’s challenges,” she said.

Olubusayo explained that while people often pray for God to remove difficulties from their lives, the real transformation begins with the renewal of the mind. She noted that God is more interested in changing people from within than merely altering their circumstances.
“Transformation will not happen in your life until your mind is renewed and your thoughts begin to change,” she said.
The prophetess also described the mind as a battleground where spiritual struggles often occur. Citing Romans 7:22–23, she explained that believers constantly face a conflict between their spiritual desires and sinful tendencies, making it essential to discipline the mind.
She added that managing one’s thoughts is key to achieving peace and happiness. According to her, an unmanaged mind often leads to stress and conflict, while a disciplined mind produces strength, confidence, and serenity.
Quoting Romans 8:6, she noted: “Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
To help believers maintain a healthy mindset, Olubusayo recommended practical steps such as challenging negative thoughts, practicing mindfulness, setting achievable goals, and engaging in positive self-talk. She also encouraged people to avoid excessive worry by focusing on situations within their control and trusting God with the rest.
According to her, spiritual practices remain central to maintaining a renewed mind. She urged believers to regularly pray and study the Bible, describing the Word of God as a powerful tool for breaking negative mental strongholds.
Quoting 2 Corinthians 10:3–4, she said the spiritual weapons available to believers possess divine power capable of demolishing strongholds in the mind.
Olubusayo further cited Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:23, which encourage Christians to be transformed by the renewing of their minds and to adopt a new attitude shaped by God’s truth.
She concluded by reminding believers that allowing God’s Word to shape their thinking would help them overcome challenges and live according to His purpose.
“Renewing the mind allows us to see life through God’s wisdom and grace, empowering us to overcome temptations and build a life filled with peace and purpose,” she said.
The message encourages believers to reflect on the thoughts they nurture daily and to replace harmful beliefs with truths rooted in scripture.
