The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports that Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, has been suspended by the Wuse Ward chapter of the party in Abuja.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the clarification on Thursday via his X handle, insisting that the party was unaware of any such action against the lawmaker.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is unaware of any suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, the distinguished Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory.

“As a law-abiding political party, the ADC has clear constitutional channels and procedures for addressing any allegations involving its members. Such matters are handled through established internal mechanisms, not through press statements,” he said.

The party’s reaction followed reports that the Wuse Ward chapter of the ADC had announced the indefinite suspension of Kingibe over alleged anti-party activities and violation of party rules.

The Ward Chairman, Kanayo Chukwu, had disclosed the decision during a meeting of party executives and members in Abuja, saying it followed deliberations over several complaints against the senator.

According to him, the ward meeting considered allegations that included the seizure of the ward register, the alleged conduct of a parallel membership registration, absence from ward meetings, and failure to pay statutory party dues.

Chukwu said the ward resolved to suspend the senator after the matter was discussed and ratified by a two-thirds majority of the executives present.

He added that the resolution had been forwarded to the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council chapter of the party, Omale Sule, for further action in line with party procedures.

The party, however, dismissed the development, urging the public and the media to disregard the reports suggesting the senator had been suspended, describing them as inaccurate.

“They are false and misleading,” Abdullahi said.
