Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has attributed the peaceful conduct of Tuesday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in the state to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s inclusive leadership style and extensive consultations with party stakeholders.
Speaking on Focus Nigeria, a programme on African Independent Television (AIT), Aniagwu said the emergence of the new State Executive Committee was the result of consensus and wide-ranging consultations across the state.
He noted that the process aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to carry along party members nationwide ahead of the party’s national convention.
According to him, following the President’s call for inclusiveness, Delta State adopted a broad and participatory approach. Governor Oborevwori convened a stakeholders’ meeting with founding APC members who joined the party in 2014, as well as those who defected to the party in April 2025.
Aniagwu explained that stakeholders agreed that each local government area should return home to consult widely before making decisions, stressing that no local government should determine outcomes for another.
He said consultations were subsequently held across the 25 local government areas, followed by senatorial district meetings and a final session at Government House, Asaba.

Describing the congress, held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, as colourful and peaceful, Aniagwu said it reflected the party’s unity. He added that the convivial atmosphere demonstrated members’ shared commitment to strengthening the party and contributing to the development of Delta State.
Aniagwu further stated that the new executive committee reflected Delta’s political balancing tradition, ensuring fair representation across the three senatorial districts.
He commended President Tinubu for promoting internal democracy by refraining from imposing leaders on state chapters, noting that decisions taken at the state level had helped reduce tensions nationwide.
The commissioner reiterated Delta APC’s support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the party’s alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda since April 28, 2025.
He said federal reforms had strengthened subnational finances and praised Governor Oborevwori for channeling resources into development projects across all local government areas.
Aniagwu also urged opposition parties to build a stronger internal consensus to remain competitive.
