Chief Alexander Oluremi Ajipe’s ambition for the Ondo North Senatorial seat in 2027 general elections has received a boost following endorsements from the Akoko Solidarity Group and members of the Ebira community within the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the district.
The Akoko Solidarity Group, in a communique dated May 3, 2026, expressed concerns over alleged failure of five Akoko-based senatorial aspirants to attend a consensus meeting convened in Ikare-Akoko to promote unity ahead of the race.
The group warned that internal divisions could undermine the district’s political prospects, recalling similar circumstances that affected previous elections.
The group noted that the Ondo North seat has been held by Akoko indigenes for about 16 consecutive years, currently occupied by Senator Jide Ipinsagba, following three terms by former Senator Ajayi Boroffice.
It stressed the need for strategic collaboration among stakeholders to avoid a repeat of past political miscalculations.
Following the unsuccessful meeting, the group engaged Chief Ajipe, an aspirant from the Owo/Ose axis, describing his response and participation as prompt and encouraging. After deliberations, the group said it found him to possess grassroots appeal, political experience, and a record of philanthropy.
It added that Ajipe outlined plans focused on infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, economic growth, and improved security across the district.
Based on these engagements, the group declared its support for his candidacy, while calling for greater accountability and performance-driven representation.
In a related development, the Ebira community within the APC across Ose, Owo, and the four Akoko local government areas also announced its unanimous endorsement of Ajipe for the 2027 senatorial election.
In a statement signed by community leaders, the group said its decision was informed by Ajipe’s longstanding involvement in the APC, his grassroots mobilization efforts, and his advocacy for rotational representation to the Owo/Ose axis.
The community further cited his role in the party’s e-registration exercise, empowerment initiatives, and support for infrastructure development, including the Owo-Ipele road project, as factors behind the endorsement.
Leaders of the group, including Mallam Momoh Isah and Mallam Aliu Okataihi, urged APC stakeholders to support Ajipe’s candidacy, describing him as a committed party member with the capacity to deliver effective representation.
